Originally established in Pingtung City, Pingtung Distillery was relocated to its currently site located at Neipu Industrial Park in 1988. The history of the Distillery can be traced back when it was still known as “Taiwan Soutokufu Senbaikyoku“ in 1898 during Japanese Occupation Era in which Taiwan’s tobacco and liquor dispensary system was established. After numerous merges and changes from different time periods, “Taiwan Soutokufu Senbaikyoku “officially became an independent distillery in 1946.Pingtung Distillery is a rice-wine manufacturing distillery with the highest rice-wine production among all production units of Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation and its rice-wine brand “Dawucun” made from premium quality raw materials and water via liquid culture has won the Monde Selection’s Golden Quality Award in Wine Excellence for 3 consecutive years (from 1998 to 2000).Under the government’s effort propaganda in industrial tourism, the accredited wine-producing Pingtung Distillery gradually transformed into a tourism distillery with a brand new look from inside out. Its Ahou Plaza, which is decorated with refreshing greens and fragrant flowers is like a small park with wine urns as its most innovative tourist attraction; an unique guest-welcoming wall piled up by wine urns can be seen in the Sales Center where several hand-painted wine urns are seen embedded in the wall to give its visitors a pleasant surprise. The Sales Center is divided into an exhibition area: area to place awards won by the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation, product sales area where wines and wine-related processed products are sold, and an art exhibition area where frequent pottery and photography exhibitions were held. In addition, rice-wine museum is also available for the visitors to get a glimpse of the rice-wine manufacturing process as well as practical information on how to use rice-wine in various cuisines.
