Following a small path from the village towards the sea, you'll discover a stretch of gleaming white where land meets the ocean, the waves shifting with the sea winds. This is Fuzheng Beach, surrounding Fuzheng Village. Fuzheng Beach is a sandy shore of the kind rarely seen in the Matsu Islands. These soft white sands are the best place to try wading into the water to hunt for clams. That's right- this is also where Matsu steamer clams originate. The area's intertidal zone is home is home to numerous creatures, earning it the nickname-the Dongju Refrigerator. There are so many steamer clams in the summer that you can find them just by digging into the sand with your hands; the feeling of satisfaction is hard to resist for locals and visitors alike.
