Dongquan Lighthouse was built in 1872. The Qing government was forced by the terms of the Treaty of Nanking to build Dongquan Lighthouse to guide British ships safely to Fuzhou. The lighthouse was the first such structure to have been done ingranite in Taiwan. The tower is 19.5m tall, and its crystal lens can send a beam out 31km. The lighthouse has now been in service for over 100 years.
