Checheng was once a prosperous town in the Japanese Rule, blessed with the sugar cane, camphor, and wood products it transported and traded, as well as the labor force and other resources introduced to it for building a hydraulic power plant.Checheng became less busy as the government stressed afforestation and land conservation more than logging. To develop tourism in Checheng, Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration turned a precious old logging factory into Checheng Wood Museum. Visitors can expect to learn much about the logging industry in early-day Taiwan.
