The Beimen Jingzaijiao Tiled-paved Salt Fields are the oldest existing salt fields in Taiwan (since 1818). The Salt Fields have a long history, and the salt workers here were experienced in producing the best quality salt in Taiwan. The establishment of Qigu, Anshun, and Wushulin Salt Fields were all supported by Beimen salt workers. Like the Sincuo Salt Fields, the Beimen Salt Fields are regarded as the home of salt production in Taiwan. In 2000, the newly-built coastal expressway was built, running straight through the Beimen Salt Fields, which forced the Salt Fields them to shut down and damaged the scenery.
