Established in 1898, Cishan Elementary School has a 103-year history. Then called "Fanshuliao Public School or Cishan First Public School," it originated education in the Cishan area, and served locals only. To the north lies a two-story classroom building; built in 1920, bearing an orderly beauty that is artistically elegant. Built in 1935, Jhongshan Hall has a Romanesque gable of which a round vent window is inlaid in the middle. Three piers stand at the second floor of the main door, and the double-arched vent window has nine arch windows on each side. The structure is firm and solid, and the outline is simple and graceful; it is the only archway classroom building left in Taiwan, and is also characteristic of schools under colonization, which should be preserved well.
