Guandi Temple was built during the Qing Dynasty in 1748 more than three centuries ago. It was the first temple to be erected in Guningtou as well as the spiritual center of the villagers in Nanshan, Beishan and Lincuo. Folklore claims that Nanshan and Beishan are each like a carp facing the Guandi Temple. Guandi Temple is then like a "sacred jewel" so the overall layout is that of "Twin Carp Welcoming the Jewel". The temple grounds were therefore referred to as the "Shuangli Gudi" ("Twin Carp Ancient Site").
