Not any Chinese cuisine, spaghetti, handmade pound cake or herbal tea can match the flavor of House+Café cuisine. The outdoor terrace of the cafe is a perfect place for some quiet alone time. In the high-rise buildings of Zhongli District, this mansion, built with red brick arcades, stone pillars, and ampullaceous fences, has exquisite architectural details, and it is not difficult to imagine its glory in the past.The mansion was an accessory structure to the Liu family's historical residence. It was built by the local prominent Liu family in 1910. The style of the building is similar to the colonial architecture of the mid-late 19th century in the United Kingdom. On its east and south sides, there are balconies in the Doric style. The building is built with imported red bricks and Taiwanese tiles, which gives out the simple charm of Chinese architecture. Behind the mansion, the garden and arch bridge built in 1935 were preserved, as well as the air-raid shelter from the Japanese occupation era. The time of the past seems to freeze here. The mansion was the office of the mining company and you can still see the wooden sign "Deyi Coal Mining Office at the entrance. The ancient traditional building on the side has the name of "Ran Li Di", expressing the expectation of the Liu ancestors for the future generation to learn studiously.The mansion is currently run by the House+Café team. In order to incorporate aesthetics into this century-old building, an art gallery has been integrated to showcase art works of the local new artists.
