This 150-year-old Jin Shan Temple is the center of religious life for people in the Jinshanmian-Zhudong-Baoshan area. At major Chinese holidays, people come to make offerings at all hours of the day. Before the Science Park was constructed, the temple was in the middle of the woods, and coming here to offer incense to the gods was like making a pilgrimage to a remote mountaintop. The Jin Shan Temple was built in the mid-Qing Dynasty in the traditional three-bay,single courtyard style with wings extending forward on both sides. The special douzih brick wall of the compound lends an air of antiquity. Two stone lions, simple yet bold and powerful, stand guard by the front door. They are considered to be of great historical value. The main deity of the temple is the Goddess of Mercy. In 1853 a leader of a local farming and security collective donated a piece of land for construction of the temple.
