"Ching Tsao Lake" is 4-kilometers from Hsinchu City. Originating from Keya River, the Lake, established in 1956, is a tourist attraction and serves as a source of irrigation. The Lake's beautiful scenery was initially meant as a main attraction for tourists. Yet its reservoir had problems such as silt of mud and sand. It was damaged by typhoons and illegal constructions on its upstream, so tourists stopped going there. The City Government dredged the Lake and it has again become a comely place for people to visit on holidays. After crossing the reservoir Huanhu (meaning: ‘surrounding the lake'), the Freeway goes through a diverging road uphill on the left – a short-cut towards Ku Chi Peak and Hsinchu Science Park. Near the Lake is Lingyin Temple inside which is a quiet and secluded atmosphere and the remains of stone columns from the period of the Japanese occupation.
