1932A.D (Japanese colonial period) "Hsinchu State Chi Tu Chin Experimental forest Site" was set to plant seedbed and cultivate local and imported vegetation. In 1948, after Taiwan recovered from Japanese, the Experimental Forest Site merged with Hsinchu Hsien Farming and forest Improvement Office to be "Gao Fong Arboretum under Hsinchu Mountain and Forest Management Office". 960A.D. following the transformation of Taiwan Forest Bureau, Gao Fong Arboretum was organized under Hsinchu forest Management Office. Gao Fong Arboretum is within a triangualar area enclosed by Gaotsuei Road, Baoshang Road, and Gaofong Road. Up to this date, 342 species of plants are found in this Arboretum, and tens of them bear information cards-mostly on sides of pavement for tourists to know more about these plants. Migatory birds perch in the forest of Arboretum during their long journey - 40 species of migratory birds and 20 species insect are observed. Walking a little further from Ah Bo Le Stop, a large scale of ferns spreads in front, just like a natural forest.
