North Gate Avenue (Pei Men Big Street) was the section of Pei Men Street from nowadays Peida Road to No.54 Pei Men Street, which belongs to the administration of Chung Hsing Li. North Gate Avenue was the earliest commercial center of Hsinchu. Experienced two times of big fire, the architectures lasted from Ching Dynasty were almost all demolished. The reconstuction from disasters of fire provided opportunities for various styles of architecture. Doors of each store by this street present the characters of different ages. City God Temple and Chang-ho Temple stand on two sides of North Gate Avenue, and therefore forms a "commercial circle" where people jostle here to worship gods. North Gate Avenue had been thriving since Ching Dynasty. As the Hsinchu aiport opened, Chung Cheng Road built through, and the Train Station gathers crowds, the economic activities stir up in East District is surpassing North Avenue.
