The Zheng Family Shrine was constructed in 1853. It is a classical Shrine Construction with three-door gate and a single courtyard built on a northwest-southeast axis. The building is part of a small clan village and is surrounded by the Jili Mansion, the Chunguan Mansion and the Jinshi Mansion. The materials and techniques for the construction of the shrine are typical of traditional architecture found in the Kinmen islands and southern Fujian province. The shrine was laid out in a strict geometric manner based around 10 square blocks. Outside the front door are two stone braces for holding jinshi banners. These signify that the clan produced two holders of jyuren or jinshi degrees. The shrine is not open to the public except on the mornings of the Lantern Festival and the winter solstice when the family makes offerings to their ancestors. Visitors can also contact the Hsinchu City Government for times of the guided tours it offers.
