This gateway was built in 1880 to honor the chastity of Su, widow of Wu Guo-bu. Wu was a Confucian scholar who contributed to the building of the Danshuei sub-prefecture office. Unfortunately, he died young, when Su was just 26. She remained a widow for over 40 years until her death at the age of 74. The most well preserved gateway in Hsinchu, it has been designated a city historic site. The three-story gateway is supported by four pillars and made of granite and diorite. Its proportions are tall and slender, and it features many exquisite carvings and inscriptions.
