In its previous incarnation, this museum was Hsinchu's Fire Bureau. It was built in 1936, when reinforced concrete buildings covered in light-colored tiles were all the rage in Taiwan. During the Japanese era it was the tallest building in Hsinchu. The building includes a six-story observation tower with an octagonal observation platform. The museum has a lot of new and vintage fire-fighting equipment on display. It also boasts several interactive exhibits that simulate what it's like to be in a fire and to operate fire-fighting equipment.
