Yiyong Temple is located behind the National Science and Technology Museum on the left hand side on Yiyong Road in Baosing Village. It is devoted to the worship of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, and is the most magnificent temple in the Baojhugo area. It is an allied temple of The Chaofong Temple at Dagangshan In 1954 a respected Zuoying resident by the name of Lan Ching-Tai donated the land and built a small building as a temporary temple. Master Kaijheng served as the temple's curate. Due to financial difficulties in the following year, famous local actress, Li Chu, was asked to take over. A former star of the Kaohsiung Theater, Li Chu's real name was "Sister Ahao". Li Chu became a devout Buddhist after she had spent a period enjoying opulent decadence. She was also a great supporter of the Yiyong Temple. In 1957, she campaigned for the provincial assembly but lost. She then decided to become a nun at Fayuan Temple in Chiayi under Master Yongjie and changed her name to "Kaijhong". With the donation of her personal estate, Li Chu personally designed the only Thai style Buddhist temple in Taiwan and replaced the old temple that had previously stood there. This fulfilled her pledge to the Yiyong Temple. Then Mayor of Kaohsiung City, Chen Wu-Chang, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Photos:
