Wei Wu Ying was originally a base for the Eighth Army Group, and after they moved, 47 hectares of the previous base were converted into a metropolitan park. The southern part of the park contains the South Lake, Summer Avenue, and a kids' play park, as well as a 3-building complex left from the original base. What was previously a parade ground and water tower has been converted into a scenic overlook, from which the whole park can be seen, and a viewing platform, a bike trail, and an expanse of grass have been added, allowing visitors to freely run, have picnics, fly kites, and take part in performance activities.
