The Kaohsiung Mosque is the second mosque to have been built in Taiwan. It was built when soldiers, officials, teachers and devout Muslims proposed raising funds for a mosque in 1949 after the ROC moved to Taiwan. Its exterior has been built in the classical Muslim style, a fresh, clean green round structure, crowned with a round vault and minaret, while the interior has a broad, bright prayer hall. This is southern Taiwan's largest Islamic centre.
