3 Bridges of Bitan

Since it opened in 1937, the Bitan Ssuspension Bridge has been Xindian’s top landmark. This 200-meter long suspension bridge has held up countless treasured stories from the people who walk across it. It is Xindian’s best known bridge, but not the only one. In 1956, downstream of it another Bitan Bridge was built, this one out of concrete because of the difficulty in maintaining the metal rods that hold the original together. Then in conjunction with the opening of National Freeway No. 3 in 1997, a new arch bridge opened in Bitan. This gave the area three bridges spanning three different generations, with each serving as a unique landmark.Getting there: Near Taipei metro’s Xindian Station
