Hutoushan Park near Taoyuan City has retained an expanse of greenery for the urban area which is why it is also known as “Taoyuan’s Backyard”. In recent years, it has become an environmental education park and is a very popular holiday destination for parents and kids. Recently it also passed an assessment of the Ministry of Transport to become a 720 hectare Designated Scenic Area, making it one of the best hiking destinations in northern Taiwan.The park has a hiking trail system with many paths, categorized according to different colors. Apart from the pedestrian path inside the park, the other seven comprehensive trails include a health trail, cherry blossom trail, forest experience trail, sun pavilion trail, plum orchard trail, eco-habitat trail, and martyrs shrine trails which all offer visitors a more in-depth glimpse of Hutou Mountain.The seven hiking trails of Hutou Mountain all offer different sceneries, the longest trail is only just over 1 km. Even though the trails are not long, they are suitable for both young and old and allowing for a more immersive experience. Along the trails are green forests and the calls of insects and birds to accompany your walk, adding to the experience. The sceneries change with the seasons, in late summer and early autumn, delicate Tung flowers drop like snowflakes. Taiwanese rain tree, also lauded as the tree of four colors are at their most verdant in summer while in autumn, they change into their new costume of resplendent yellow. In autumn, the silvergrass is in full bloom and in winter, plum and cherry blossoms race to bloom and decorate the orchards.
