Built in 1988 on a sloping terrain, the 15.6-hectare waterfront Nangang Park boasts intriguing Chinese-style architectural highlights. It is located at the intersection of Dongxin St. and Chengfu Rd., bordering the Combined Services General Headquarters to the north and Nangang Public Housing Complex to the south, while commanding a panoramic view of Mt. Sishou (in Xinyi Dist.) to the east. Among all the scenic parks in Nangang District, Nangang Park is the largest, and the only one with a natural pond. A landmark of Nangang, standing at the park's main entrance is a red Chinese-style memorial gate measuring 13-meters tall and 20-meters wide, on top of which perches a calligraphic work with the golden engraved strokes for "Nangang Park". People in the neighborhood enjoy line-dancing or morning exercises on the square in front of the memorial gate, the beauty of which is accentuated by flower beds with regularly updated gardening projects. Tourists, among others, find this memorial gate a perfect backdrop and camera-ready for snapshots.
