Wulai was the hometown of the Atayal, (also known as the Tayal and Tayan, are one tribe of Taiwanese aborigines. The town was discoveredby the tayan hunters and the name of the town derives from the Atayal phrase qilux ulay meaning "hot and poisonous". The Wulai hotspring is formed by 2 major rivers that runs through Taipei, the Nanshi Riverand the Tonghou River. It is a Alkaline carbonic acid spring so it is odorless and crystal clear. It is very popular amongst the hotspring goers because of its ability to nutre the skin. Every spring there is a Cherry Tree Festival and so the visitors can bathe in the hotspring and enjoy the awesome mountainous view.
