Shurangama Pavilion(Leng Yen Ge) is right next to Kaishan Building of Lingyun Zen Temple. It is the place for worshipers to learn and practice the principles of Zen, and also the monastery for the samaneras (novice monks) to study Buddhism. The pavilion was built by the second-generation abbot Master Benyuan in 1926. The two-storey house is built of Guanyin stones, displaying a mixture of various Eastern and Western architectural styles: the front porch is typically Taiwanese, while the capitals of the pillars are of the elegant Baroque style, and the triangular facades on the roof expresses a strong flavor of Hinduism. The old trees in the yard add to the elegance and solemnity of the pavilion.
