Brick-Wood Palace Style Architecture- Yuanqing Taoist Monastery (National-class Historic Landmark) Yuanqing Taoist Monastery, folk named Shrine of Heavenly Emperor, enshrines the Jade Emperor. It is the only Taoist monastery enshrining the Jade Emperor as the main deity in Taiwan. In the 1763 of the Qing Dynasty, migrants from Quanzhou (Fujian Province) raised the funds to build this Taoist shrine. That is why a plaque inscribed "Blessed Land of Wenling" (Wenling is the old name of Quanzhou) is hung right at the entrance. The current architecture of Yuanqing Taoist Monastery is a representation of the Guangxu Peiord (Qing Dynasty) technology. Its majestic layout and intricate carving works are highly representative in artistic achievements. It is one of the best brick-wood palace style architecture in Taiwan.
