Upon entry of the Shaochuantou old fort visitors can observe a plaque， which reads， "This small battery was built in 1875 at the same time as the Cihou fort on the south side of the port. Together they protected the Takou Harbor." The cannons have long since been removed， with only arc-shaped gun mounts remaining. The characters "Hsiung Jhen Bei Men" (Northern Guardian Gate) are large and powerful， corresponding to the characters "Wei Jhen Tien Nan" (Dominating the South) over the Cihou Fort. The magnificent gates are kept in good order and serve as a reminder its history. Photos:
