National Palace Museum (NPM) which holds the world’s largest collection of Chinese cultural treasures has drawn a large number of domestic and foreign visitors annually. NPM in 2010 launched the Grand Palace Museum Project, and main construction of the Southern Branch of the NPM (hereafter referred to as the "NPM Southern Branch") located in Chiayi County-governed special district was completed by the end of 2015. The unique, architecturally designed NPM Southern Branch set as an "Asian Arts and Culture Museum" is focused on the collection of Asian cultural artifacts and books. NPM has planned and set up the cultural experience zone and residential areas in the diversely-planned park area, serving the purpose of introducing artifact-derived leisure and recreational activities. There is an artificial lake area in the museum park used as an ecological landscape and retaining and preventing flooding of the park area. New highlights of cultural tourism brought by NPM Southern Branch also offer visitors a new leisure attraction.
