According to historian Lu Jia, Zhu Xi Temple was the earliest temple among the three Buddhist temples built in Ming dynasty. The Zhu Xi Temple was founded during Qing dynasty in the 22nd year of Kang-Xi by the Taiwanese Prefect Yu-Ying Jiang to enshrine the three images of Buddha. The monastery, also known as the "Little Xi-Tian Temple" (little Western Paradise Temple), is elegant and tranquil. Among the three famous ancient plaques of Tainan city, the one that bears the words "liao ran shi jie" (understanding the world entirely) can be located here in the monastery.
